Barry Town v Treharris Preview - Sat 22nd December, 2.00pm, Jenner Park

Barry Town play their first match for 5 weeks this Saturday at Jenner Park, kick-off 2.00pm against struggling Treharris who are second from bottom.

The first team will be hoping to emulate their reserves who won 7-0 against St Athan in the Vale Premiership on Saturday. Grant Thompson scored the first five goals for Barry Town.

The Town’s first team match at Llangeinor was called off last Saturday due to glass on the pitch, thus giving Grant and Jeff MacLean a chance to get some match practice in the reserves.

The team and management enjoyed their Christmas night out last Saturday with curry and chips at the football club’s new restaurant, with a free tab put on by the Chairman. After some drinks, the team went into Cardiff and toured some clubs – a new experience for a few of the 18 year olds who were reluctant to be led into the ‘Boudoir’ at a big Cardiff nightclub! It was Christian Mills first time out with the squad since the local boy moved to the Town from Cadoxton Cons while Tom Hejduk, the Pole, put in some fine dance moves to entertain his team mates!

Gareth Picknell and Jeff MacLean are fit for this Saturdays match while Scott Morris has recovered from his broken leg in the pre-season friendly against Merthyr Tydfil and is available for selection. Long term injury, star striker, Zak Misbah has had his cast removed after a second knee operation and is expected to resume training in the new year. His brother, Samir, is set to start training sooner after recovering from a broken foot when he dropped a glass on it. Leon Dennis, who hit the front pages after waiting nearly two hours for an ambulance on the pitch at Jenner Park has had his first cast removed following his successful ankle operation and will be at the match to cheer on his team mates.

Barry Town are looking for a new Manager of the Town’s reserve team in the Vale Premiership as the current Manager, Dean Hyde, has started a new job and has work commitments on Saturdays. Anyone with suitable coaching or management experience who is interested should write to the Club at Jenner Park. The Town are also looking for extra quality players to join the Club’s reserve team and hopefully challenge for a first team place.

Barry Town’s Super Lotto was not won last week so this week carries an estimated prize of £250. Last weeks numbers were 4,5,6 and 8. Tickets, £1 each are available from the Club at Jenner Park which is now open from midday to 11.30pm every day.

Preview - BARRY TOWN v Llanwern

The Dragons return to League action after a two week break, hoping to get back to winning ways after the 0-1 reverse against Cardiff Corinthians last time out.

This weeks opposition is Llanwern who knocked the Dragons out of the Welsh Cup earlier this season.

The manager will have Jeff MacLean and Scott Morris back in contention for places after long term injuries but the Misbah brothers, Samir and Zak are still unavailable through injury.

The team know that if promotion is to be obtained this season that they must start winning again, especially against teams who are above them in the League.

Please note that next weeks game against Ely Rangers is now on Friday night (30/11) with a kick off at 7.30pm.
